Bridgepointe Board Meeting Minutes for March 2004

The BridgePointe Board of Directors held the quarterly meeting at the home of Board President Ken Nelson. The meeting convened at 7 pm and the following persons were in
attendance.

Chris Guterriez, Randy McManus, Larry Hanson, Ken Nelson
Joanne Link, Mike Power, Scott McClure, Curtis Stock, Officer Jim Silke

Nick Baumgartner was unable to attend due to recent surgery.

Curtis Stock presented the minutes of the November 16, 2003 Board meeting and also the minutes of the General Membership meeting held on January 12, 2004. It was moved and seconded to approve both sets of meeting minutes and the motion carried.

Joanne Link (Welcome Wagon Coordinator) provided the Board a list of the new residents to whom she delivered Welcome Wagon Baskets in 2004. The cost of the gift baskets was discussed and Chris Guterriez pointed out that there is a total of nine baskets provided for in the current budget.

Scott McClure (Pool Committee Chair) told the Board that the contractor was coming to install the backflow equipment at the pool. The question as to whether or not the BridgePointe Homes Association should be listed as a co-insured on the pool management company’s liability insurance policy was raised. A motion was made and approved to have the Association listed as a co-insured party.

Scott said that the management company would provide free towel and soap dispensers in the bathrooms at the pool as long as we bought supplies from the company providing the dispensers.

The Board discussed whether or not swim lessons would be offered to the residents of BridgePointe at the pool. Scott agreed to check with the lifeguards and see if they would be interested in offering swim lessons and what they would charge for the lessons and report back to the Board.

On the weekend of March 28th Scott and Tammy Baack will be draining both pools as part of the preparation for the pool opening. The steps in the wading pool need to be repainted and this will be done under the warranty provided by the pool painter. Draining the pool will also make it possible to visually inspect the rest of the pool.

One resident made a request that lines be painted on the bottom of the pool to assist those persons swimming laps at the pool. Scott will check on the price and the other Board members were going to try and gauge interest from other residents concerning this request.

Scott suggested that the Board purchase a grease board for the exterior of the pool house so that the lifeguards could put up their names and also to provide notice of upcoming pool parties.

Curtis Stock pointed out that there was a discrepancy between the pool rules and the pool party request form. One stated that private pool parties could be held from 8 pm to midnight and the other had the private pool party times listed as 9 pm to midnight. The Board agreed that the correct time of 9 pm to midnight should be specified in both the pool rules and the pool party request form.

Joanne Link asked that lifeguards be reminded that they are not to have guests or to talk on their cell phones. Scott is going to get a hard-wired phone for the pool.

Chris Guterreiz ( Treasurer) provided the Board with a list of the residents with unpaid dues and the Profit and Loss Statement for the year-to-date. Everyone in attendance agreed that Chris has done a great job getting the dues collected and managing the financial side of things.

For Nick Baumgartner (Architectural Committee Chair) The house on 82nd Place has been contacted about the trash in front and it has been put in the garage. Board discussed home on 83rd Street needing repairs. Due to the extraordinary circumstances faced by this resident a number of residents have volunteered to assist with repairs and improvements to the exterior of the home. Substantial progress has been made to date with more scheduled for next month.

Mike Power (Landscaping Chair) The landscaping company, Illusions Lawn Care, has put down new mulch. He will be meeting with the asphalt company to schedule the overlay of the pool parking lot to turn the water away from the walls surrounding the pool as this is causing damage to the walls. The company that did the repairs on some of the rock walls still owes time for additional repairs.

The possible placement of another entrance monument on 82nd Terrace was discussed. Cost was estimated to be $450 - $1,000. An easement appears to be available for this. Mike will be looking at getting some cost estimates.

Curtis and Nick will check out the missing section of the sidewalk on 82nd Terrace.

Randy McManus (Vice President) requested that anyone having items for the neighborhood newsletter to please submit them to him as soon as possible. The Association has purchased the software needed to create the newsletter but he is needing content. Board discussed possible use of advertising to help underwrite the cost of the newsletter. It was recommended that information about the new recycling program be included in the next issue of the newsletter.

Officer Jim Silke (Kansas City, Missouri Police Officer) told the Board that the police department’s new Disaster and Terrorism Response Center was up and operational. He stated that the police department was encouraging city residents to property prepare for a disaster and/or terrorism attack by stockpiling critical supplies and foodstuffs in their homes and learning what to do should such an event take place. He is serving as the police department’s liaison with communities in the Northland to help them get prepared,

He also said the police department would work with the Board to help residents with crime prevention and safety issues in BridgePointe. Larry Hanson is going through the police department’s Auxiliary Patrol – Mediation Program and the Board expressed their appreciation for his work in this area. Question was raised as to whether or not the Board should consider having signs limiting on-street parking at night between 10pm and 6am or midnight and 6am.
Board left open for future discussion.

Ken Nelson (President) BridgePointe is now a member of Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. Ken will be representing the Board at the next NNI meeting. Larry Hanson noted that the recycling company hand been rough in there handling of the new recycling containers and that they won’t last long if this continues. Ken suggested that maybe a resident might be found to serve as a Traffic, Safety and Crime representative to work with the Police Department.

Curtis Stock (Secretary) Resident list for the directory is being updated. Possible expansion of the material to be included was discussed. Curtis will be updating the pool rules and the pool party request form for distribution with the pool passes.

Meeting was adjourned.
